Jerry Swopes died in Topeka, KS on May 13, 2010 at the age of 27. He was the son of Linda Swopes Marshall of Topeka, KS and Tyrone Jones of Jackson, MS.
Jerry was a graduate of Washburn Rural High School and a former student of Bryan Career College. Jerry enjoyed sports and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Jerry shared a very special relationship with his grandfather Silas Swopes, Sr. in which has joined in eternal peace. He leaves to cherish his many memories, his mother Linda Swopes Marshall, his father Tyrone Jones, one son Gerard Josiah Swopes, two sisters, Shawnessy Swopes and Latiseia Stano, one brother Michael Whitfield along with three nieces and one nephew. Jerry had a very special bond with his maternal grandmother, Earnestine "Gramezie" Swopes, a cousin Tony Groves and his nephew TreShawn "Deuce" Benton.
Jerry would want his aunts and uncles, family and friends to come together to celebrate his homecoming.
The entire Swopes family would like to thank you all for your support in our time of need.

Mr. Swopes will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service. Graveside inurnment will be 11 a.m., Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Gerard Josiah Swopes Education Fund, sent in care of Kaw Valley Bank and Trust, 3160 SE 6th Ave, Topeka, KS 66607.
