Geraldine Jane "Jerry" Rabe, 88, passed away peacefully September 8, 2007.
She was born March 2, 1919 in Fairview, Kansas the daughter of Rolla and Alma Haflich. She just missed the 70th year celebration of her 1937 Fairview High School Class Reunion.
After graduation she came to Topeka where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Green Grocery Company, Gerlach Ready Mix, Hankamer Ready Mix, and several jewelers. Soon after coming to Topeka she joined a women's basketball team for which she was a distinguished player. Basketball, any team, was of interest and entertainment for her.
Her parents, a sister Gwen and a brother Wally as well as her husband Paul, whom she married September 2, 1947 have predeceased her. Jerry is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Haflich, a nephew, Jeff Haflich (Bert), Greg Earnest (Ramona), Albuquerque, NM, niece, Barbara Hesse ("Burns"), niece Ellen Feldman-Elliott (Gary), San Antonio, TX and a step-son Crosby M. Crosby, North Port, Florida. Many great nieces, great nephews, and great grandchildren also survive.
Jerry was happy and pleased to give many volunteer hours to the Stormont-Vail Hospitality Shop. Her good handwriting made her a popular volunteer to write at the Capper Foundation.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m.., Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
