Gerald L. "Jerry" Manthe, 65, of Topeka, passed away at St. Francis Medical Center on Friday, September 19, 2008, after a sudden illness. He was born on June 6, 1943, in Topeka, the son of Delbert and Laurine Manthe, who preceded him in death. He married Naomi "Sue" Tosh on April 19, 1968; she survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 34 years, retiring in 2003. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeff Manthe and wife Marie of Topeka, and Justin Manthe and wife Lisa of Escondido, California, and one daughter, Stacy Padilla and husband Rick, of Topeka; six grandsons, Kyle and Ryan Manthe, Jesse and Jayme Padilla, and Cecil and Alexander Manthe; and a brother, Lawrence Manthe. Funeral services will be held in Topeka at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 23 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Gerald will lie in state after 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22 at the funeral home.
