Georgia Ruth Daniel, 101, of Topeka, passed away on November 8, 2021. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with an undying love for her family. We will all miss your loving smile and gracious embrace of life.
Mrs. Daniel was born August 17, 1920, in Topeka to Charles Albert and Georgia Westbrook Sandmeyer. She was a 1938 graduate of Topeka High School. She married John Speed Daniel on September 22, 1940, in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1994. As a youth, Mrs. Daniel worked in downtown Topeka dress shops. While her husband was stationed with the US Army in Europe during WWII, she worked at the A.T. & S. F. Offices in Topeka and then for the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. After her son entered high school, she returned to work as the school secretary for Potwin Elementary School in 1962. She continued working for USD 501 as a secretary at the Administrative Center until her retirement in 1982.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James Speed and Linda Brown Daniel; grandson, John Bernard Daniel (Shanna Roberts); granddaughter, Jessica Browne Basgall (Frank William); and her great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Anne, Karoline Georgia, Emma Louise, and Josephine Rose Basgall all of Derby, KS; and many nieces and nephews of the Sandmeyer family. Georgia is also survived by her step-brother Keith Willes, and the children and grandchildren of the Willes family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Bert Willes, her husband, John, brothers Orville, Charles, Franklin, Donald, Ralph, John and Fred, and sisters, Mildred Sandmeyer and Emma Lou Machac.
At her request, a graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 13, 2021 with burial in the Lincoln Section of Mount Hope Cemetery.
