George W. Compton

George W. Compton, 94, Hutchinson, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016.

He was born September 2, 1921, in Sarton, West Virginia, the son of Elbert and Cordia (Weikle) Compton.

George married Eleanor L. Carlson on November 10, 1945, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2000.

George was co-founder and director of the Bethany Ranch Home in Phoenix, Arizona, from which he retired in 1995 after 28 ½ years. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theatre. George was very active in the Rotary Club in Phoenix and was a member of American Legion Post 68. He was a former member of Topeka Bible Church.

Survivors include children, Dianne Leigh Compton and Duane Michael Compton, of Hutchinson, Kansas; sister, Helen Hogarth of Chester, Virginia; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Elaine Compton; and siblings, Ruth Litteral, Hester Houchins, Rachel Jarrett, Mason Compton, and Raymond Compton.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, where the family will receive guests one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas, 5111 East 21st Street, N. Wichita, Kansas 67208.
