George Brinton "Grandpa George" Vincent, 86, of Topeka, passed away, Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Midland Hospice House. He was born July 7, 1919 in Sterling, Kansas, the son of Stephen and Ursa Ross Vincent.
George graduated from Ottawa High School in 1939. He attended Ottawa University and Kansas Sate University and then he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving during World War II where he was discharged as a Master Sergeant in the 80th Infantry Division in Europe. He worked at Ross Milling Company in Ottawa and White Water, KS. He moved to Topeka in 1954 and owned and operated a Dairy Queen until 1966. He opened and operated Vincent's Western Wear in 1966 up until his death.
He was a member of the Shawnee County Mounted Posse, Capitol Post #1 of the American Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge in White Water, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Nina, Corinne, Eleanor and a son-in-law Dalbert Burkhardt.
He married Virginia L. Landis, December 22, 1942 in Abilene, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Barbara Burkhardt, Topeka; a son, Bob Vincent and his wife Evelyn, Lyndon; seven grandchildren, Debbie Murray, Vincent Burkhardt, Ronnie Burkhardt, Heath Burkhardt, Brint Vincent, Mark Vincent, and Jeannie Vincent and ten great-grandchildren, Nicole and Kristi Murray, Kyle, Justin, Derrick, Torey, Taylor and Taryn Burkhardt, Chloe and Anna Vincent.
A funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Cremation will follow after service and inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Vincent will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
