George M. Rundell, 78, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
George was born March 25, 1939, in Stafford, KS, to Alton K. and Ollie (Bell) Rundell. He graduated from Stafford High School in 1957, Emporia State University with a Bachelor Degree in Science in 1961 and a Master of Science in Foreign Language in 1962. He obtained a Specialist Degree in Education from Emporia State University in 1971.
George taught Russian and Spanish in the Ulysses Grant County High School in Ulysses, Kansas in 1963. In 1968 he became a Foreign Language Consultant for Topeka Public School District in Topeka, Kansas. In 1978 he became principal at Topeka Adventure Center (enrichment school). In 1985 he became principal at Chase Middle School for three years. George went back to an administrative role as Energy Manager for the Topeka School District. He retired from the Topeka Public School System in 2001.
From a young age George was an avid stamp and coin collector. He enjoyed going to coin shows and appraising numismatic estates. He also loved playing games, working jigsaw puzzles and travelling.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darla Rundell; two children, Michael (Diana) Rundell, Murfreesboro, TN, and Ginger (Ed) Barlow, Bentonville, AR; and six grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Ollie Rundell; brother, Herbert; sister, Onabelle; and son, Matthew.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Topeka Baptist Church, 4500 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66610. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66610.
George's inurnment will be at a later date in Stafford Cemetery, Stafford, KS.
