George Omer "Bud" Price, Jr., 82, of Topeka, died Friday, June 4, 2004 at his residence. He was born on November 10, 1921 in Topeka the son of George O. and Helen Lavina Etzel Price, Sr. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1940. He attended Navy Fire Control School in Washington, D.C. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Wyoming from October 1942 to April 1943 and then on the USS Sierra from April 1943 through January of 1946. He retired in January of 1984 from the State of Kansas after 33 years of service as an Assistant Forman Journeyman Bookbinder. He served as a Scout Master and Explorer Advisor for Boy Scout Troop No. 39, was a past Elder of Third Christian Church, a member of the Moose Lodge, the Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, Union Local No. 40 and the USS Sierra Veterans Association. He married Phylis E. Fowkes on May 25, 1946 in Lawrence, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Bruce and his wife Brenda Price of Tecumseh, his daughter Judy and her husband Leon Crider of White Hall, Arkansas, three grandchildren Brad and his wife Lori Price, Tonia and her husband Andrew Sutton, Chad and his wife Erica Price all of Topeka. Four great-grandchildren, Michael and Allison Sutton, Ashley and Quinton Price, one brother Marshall and his wife Bettie Price and a sister, Nadine and her husband Eugene Norris of Topeka, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice E. Price on November 19, 1950. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Mausoleum. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Price will lie in state after noon Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Monday evening.
