George Knatt, 67, of Topeka, died on Friday, June 6, 2014.
George was born on September 19, 1946 in New Iberia, LA to Foreman and Mary (Davis) Knatt. He graduated from Jonas Henderson High School in 1964 and served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force Military Police during the Vietnam conflict.
He worked for many years as a railroad switchman/brakeman for Santa Fe Railroad and was later employed by Payless Shoesource as an Electronic Repair Technician; he retired in 2012 after nearly 20 years of service.
He was married to Mary Provost in Louisiana in 1970. From this union were born his two daughters, Tanisha Easterling of Lawrenceville, GA and Tia Knatt of Topeka.
George recently became an active member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Topeka and had been active with the Knights of Columbus over the years. George was seldom seen without his ballcap. He loved to fish, loved to shoot pool and he lived his life to the fullest.
He is survived by his daughter, Tanisha (Robert) Easterling and her daughters, Ayla and Micah and by his daughter, Tia Knatt and her sons, Erron, Markus, and Jah'Kori; by one brother, Alvin (Mary) Knatt of New Iberia, LA; by two sisters, Rita Glenda Gilliam of Lake Charles, LA and Hazel Narcisse of Port Arthur, TX; sister-in-law, Alice Knatt of Topeka as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by two brothers, Percy and Lionel Knatt, and by a sister, Anita L. Sanders.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 16 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka; the family will receive friends from 9:30a.m. until service time. Private family inurnment will take place at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
