George M. Harvey, Jr., 96, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at his home. He was born July 21, 1921 in Topeka, the son of George and Alice (Hein) Harvey, Sr.
George graduated from Highland Park High School. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad before retiring after 44 years of service. George was a Navy Veteran during WWII. He attended Topeka Bible Church.
George married Catherine Howery in 1944. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Clifford, Clarence, Robert, David, Ronald, Danny and Shirley.
Survivors include two sons, Edward E. Harvey of Topeka, Dennis A. (Cheryl) Harvey of St. John, Indiana, five grandchildren, Matthew (Dallas), Michael (Cathy), Elizabeth, Amy Frahm (Brian), Allyson McKown (Adam), nine great-grandchildren, Rylie, Carter, Bentley, Kierstyn, Emmersyn, Nathan, Landon, Morgan, and Daniel and his siblings, Ellen Costello, Gareld Harvey and Lindy Harvey.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. George will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2018 at the funeral home.
