7. Background: Mr. Eicholtz graduated from Kansas State University in 1937 where he was president of
Sigma Nu Fraternity and Blue Key. He was business manager of the 1936 yearbook. He was with the Celotex
Corp., Chicago, from 1937 to 1940, when he went on active duty with the US Army. He served in the Southwest
Pacific during WW2 and retired after 22 years of both active and reserve service as a Lt Col in the Corps of
Engineers. Following the war, he returned to Kansas and worked for Griest and Ekdahl, Architects. He was
assistant state architect until 1955 when he resigned to open his own architectural firm. He retired from his firm on
January 1, 1983. He designed many financial, educational, commercial, and corporate buildings in the Topeka area,
including the Topeka Savings Home Office, the Boys Club, the Frank Carlson Federal Office, Chase Middle School,
and the large mammal building at the Topeka Zoo. His firm received a National Energy Award for the Federal
Building. Professional and community activities have included: First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an
Elder and Trustee; Siloam Lodge #225 AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies; Topeka Lions Club; President, Topeka
section, American Institute of Architects (AIA); Director, Kansas Society, AIA; Chairman, American Red Cross;
Chairman, United Way Professional Division, 1969; Member of Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce,
Downtown Topeka, Inc., Capital City Redevelopment Agency.
