George E. Mccullough

George E. McCullough, 86, retired prominent Topeka attorney, died Monday, July 19, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.
He was born December 20, 1923 in Coffeyville, the son of Harry and Gladys Stoneking McCullough. He was raised in Arkansas City where he attended grade and high school and Arkansas City Junior College.
After working a short while in aircraft factories in Wichita, he joined the U.S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge he worked for a time as a brakeman for Santa Fe Railroad.
He then attended Washburn Municipal University, graduating with a BA Degree in 1949, Law Degree in 1950 and Juris Doctorate in 1970. He opened his law practice in Topeka and became General Counsel and Lobbyist for the Kansas AFL-CIO, maintaining that position throughout his career. His practice also consisted exclusively of Worker's Compensation Law until his retirement from McCullough, Wareheim & LaBunker in 1985.
His memberships included the Kansas and American Bar Associations; Association of Trial Lawyers; Law Science Academy and several other legal associations. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme and District Courts of Kansas; 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
He was a member of Capital Post #1 American Legion, VFW Post #15017, served six years on the Topeka Airport Authority, serving as Chairman on three different occasions and served as Chairman of the Topeka Urban Renewal Agency in the 1960s. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge #90 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies and Arab Shrine where he was a member of the Sun Devil Unit, and various other organizations. He was an avid fisherman & storyteller.
He married Vivian Austin Stotts on October 7, 1967. She preceded him in death. Also preceding in death were his parents; one sister, Shirley Webber; his son, George E. McCullough, Jr. and one step-son, Jerry Stotts.
He is survived by daughter Kristy Lynn Jackson and granddaughter Kayla Jackson, both of Boca Raton, FL; grandson Clayton Tice of Topeka; niece Cindy Ramsey of Salina; nephew Clint Webber of Wichita; great-niece Cerci Munson of Holton; step-daughters Lee (Greg) Nelson of Omaha, NE and Pamela Revis of Oak Grove, MO; step-son Terry (Reg) Stotts of Omaha; step-daughter-in-law Susan Stotts of Lilydale, MN; step-granddaughters, Vicki (Mark) Neustrom and Jackie Stotts; step-grandsons Michael, Jeff, Greg and Paul Stotts and nine step-great-grandchi1dren.
Memorial services were held on Friday, June 23, 2010 at the Unity Church of Christianity, Topeka with inurnment in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Omaha.
Memorials contributions may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
