George D. Keith
Age 94, of Topeka passed away October 21, 2002 at a local hospital. He was born April 7, 1908 in Trenton, MO the son of James William and Barbara Ellen DeVolld Keith.
After graduating from high school he attended Central College in Fayette, MO. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Fort Hays State College in Hays, KS. He received his Masters in Music from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, Ohio in 1942. He taught music at Summersville, MO, Pawnee Rock, KS, Atwood, KS. He taught music and was the principal of Lacrosse High School, LaCrosse, KS for 21 years before moving to Topeka and becoming the Director of School Unification for the State of Kansas retiring April 30, 1973.
In addition to his administrative abilites, Mr. Keith has been very creative. His musical compositions have been performed around the world. He was contacted by President Nixon for a list of prominent educators.
He was married to Bernice M. DeWoody March 22, 1930 in Springfield, MO. She preceded him in death November 27, 1993.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday October 24, 2002 at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Keith will lie in state from 1:00-9:00 PM, October 23, 2002 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00-7:00PM that evening.
