George C. Schrade, 87, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2006.
George was born October 29, 1918, son of George and Helen Schrade in Irvington, NJ. After graduating high school in Albany, NY, he attended New York University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in June 1941. He proudly served in WWII as a Transportation Officer in the European Theatre.
He married Mildred Eccles on June 27, 1942 in New York City, NY. They were married for 63 years and raised three children. While he furthered his career, they moved to various locations, finally settling in Topeka in 1962 where he joined the Fleming Company. After 21 years, he retired as Vice President of Distribution.
Surviving are: his wife, Mildred; daughters, Barbara Daniel and Susan Drewelow, of Topeka; and son, Steven Schrade, of Phoenix, AZ; two granddaughters and five grandsons; and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service for George will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 9 at Countryside United Methodist Church. In honor of his wishes, he was cremated. Inurnment will be private.
