George Albert Bales

George A Bales, 83, of , passed away on February 17, 2025 at University of Kansas Health System - St. Francis Campus.  

He was born on February 16, 1942 to Fred and Edna (Schlender) Bales in Emporia, Kansas.  

George graduated from Emporia State Teachers College with a degree in mathmatics. On June 12, 1965 he married Joan Burck. He taught highschool math and coached basketball in West hope, ND until 1967. He then went to work for the state of North Dakota as a computer operator. In 1981, he moved with his family to Owatonna, MN then in 1983 they moved to Kansas where he worked as a computer analyst for the state of Kansas until he retired. 

George is survived by daughters; Darci (John Gunsaulis) Schlobohm, Tanya (Jonathan) Shaw, son; Michael (Catherine) Bales, granddaughters; Hailey Schlobohm, Mary Shaw, grandson; John Bales great-granddaughter; Freyja Parkin brother; Don (Renee) Bales, step-daughter; Angie Maloy, step-grandson; Nate Titus, special friend; Donna Marquardt and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Edna Bales, his first wife; Joan Burck, his second wife; Susan Grieme, grandson; Derrick Schlobohm, and sister; Judy Bales.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, 11:00 am, with visitation beginning an hour prior both at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn Road, Topeka, Kansas 66604, with Reverend Jennifer Jackson, officiating. 

A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery.
