Genevieve Arminta Bray Cowell Drummond, 94, of Topeka, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at a Brewster Place Health Center.
She was born August 28, 1919, in Topeka; and married Albert J. Cowell May 1, 1940, who was killed in France during WWII. They had a son, David Eugene and a daughter Marilyn Kay Cowell. She married Zeno P. Drummond June 29, 1947, who adopted the two children.
Genevieve was elected Clerk of the District Court of Shawnee County in 1946 and served one term. She was employed as a secretary for 25 years.
Genevieve was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she acted as church secretary, served on several boards, taught Sunday and Bible School, and sang in the choir. She and Zeno renewed their vows in the church for their 50th anniversary. They moved to Brewster Retirement Center in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her son, David in 1990, and her husband, Zeno in 2000.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (Darryl) Crumpton, four granddaughters, and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Burial will be in the Veterans Section at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church, Brewster Place Foundation, Grace Hospice, or one of their choice.
