Geneva M. Adkins

Geneva Marguerite Adkins, 66, Topeka, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born March 23, 1939 in Troy, Kansas, the daughter of Arnold and Edna Ruhnke Benitz.

Geneva graduated from Hiawatha High School and received her RN from Stormont-Vail School of Nursing.

On June 24, 1960, she was united in marriage to William A. Adkins, Jr. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison. He survives at home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sarah Ebling and husband, Frank of Overland Park, and Shelly Smith and husband, Mike of Manhattan.

Geneva was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, Katherine, Hannah, and Maddy Ebling and Mariah, Quillyn, Michael, Mason, and Gabriela Smith.

Other survivors include two sisters, Charlotte Campbell, Burlingame, and Edna Mae Lovell, Topeka.

Geneva was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Stormont-Vail Auxillary Board, Chapter DV of the PEO Sisterhood, Knollwood Garden Club, and Topeka Country Club.

She was an avid walker. Every morning, rain or shine, you could find her walking on the Shunga Trail and through the Knollwood area with a warm smile and friendly comments for all her friends and acquaintances.

Geneva loved flowers and took great pride in her beautiful gardens. She also loved traveling with her husband, especially in France, Austria, and Ireland.

Her greatest love, however, was affectionately being known as "Mimi" to her eight grandchildren. She will be dearly missed, but forever in our hearts and minds.

A celebration of Geneva's life will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter Lange officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stormont-Vail's Big Hearts for Little Hearts, 1500 SW 10th Ave., 66606, Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, 66606, or to Topeka Parks and Recreation Foundation, specifically to beautify the Shunga Trail, 620 SE Madison, 66607.
