Donald "Gene" Steuart, 81, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011. Gene was born December 14, 1929, in Winchester, KS, son of Ira and Lavinia (White) Steuart. He graduated from Winchester High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball and football. Gene graduated from Kansas State University with a BA in business administration. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955.
Gene was united in marriage to Linda Lee Whitworth of Clinton, MO, on March 25, 1959.
Gene worked for the State of Kansas as the Director of Aviation. He owned Steuart Freightline, and was Vice President of Pizza Hut of Arizona, Inc. Gene was a pilot for Ernie Mosher Capital Air in Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Jo Palmer, Sacramento, CA, and Margaret Denise Davidson, Topeka.
Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Steuart, Topeka, two sons, Jon and Jim Steuart, Topeka, and five grandchildren, Melissa and Kristen Steuart, and Ellie, Cassie, and Sam Steuart, all of Topeka.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Gene will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
