Gary D. Fadely, 75, Sarasota, FL, formerly of Topeka, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014.
Gary was born December 25, 1938 in Topeka, the son of Richard and Dorothy (Sutherin) Fadely.
He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University.
He started his banking career at what was then Merchants National Bank of Topeka. He later went to work for Commerce State Bank when the bank was chartered and opened in 1959, located in the Holiday Square Shopping Center. The bank is now known as CoreFirst Bank and Trust. Gary held various lending positions in his career with the bank and was promoted to Executive Vice-President over all lending functions in 1978. He held this position until he retired in July of 2000. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the bank during his tenure.
He founded and was also a charter member of the Meals on Wheels organization. The organization began in 1972 and has grown from serving a couple dozen meals to serving over 560 meals a day. Gary served as Chairman of the KBA Real Estate Committee. He was a member of the advisory committee of the Kansas/Nebraska School of Banking and served on the board of St. Francis Hospital. Gary was Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Arab Temple Endowment Fund. He was a member of Topeka Lodge #17, A.F. & A.M., Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shrine, and First Church of Sarasota.
Gary married Yvonne Hall on June 2, 1979. She survives. Other survivors include children, Michele (Tracy) Fultz, Jeff (April) Fadely, Denise Randall, John (Karen) Koch II, Wayne (Deb) Hall; sister, Nancy Peel; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Fadely; and son-in-law, Lou Randall.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Entombment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Gary will lie in state at the funeral home after noon on Friday, August 22, 2014 and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
