Garnette A. Dent, 88, Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008 in Topeka. She was born April 13, 1920 in Topeka, the daughter of Lyle W. and Carolyn (McCay) Miller.
She was a graduate of Topeka High School and the Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Topeka and retired from Memorial Hospital in 1980.
Garnette moved to Perry from Silver Lake in 1957 and to Lake Dabinawa in rural McLouth in 1984. She has resided at Brewster Place since 1998.
She was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church for 47 years; a 50 year Life member of Loyal Chapter No. 176 Order of the Eastern Star; the Perry American Legion Auxiliary, Lawrence Eagles Lodge No. 309 Auxiliary; Topeka Chapter Women of the Moose Lodge No. 1091; and the Jane C Stormont Alumni Association.
Garnette married Roy Edward Dent on September 20, 1942. He died May 17, 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Royce Dent, Papillion, NE; a son, Donald Dent, Kapolei, HI; grandsons, Troy J. Dent, Brian R. Essman, William J. Essman, Christopher Eugene Dent; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Perry United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Garnette will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
