Galen "Duke" Senogles, 87, Topeka, passed away October 7, 2013, at Plaza West Care Center.
He was born October 25, 1925, in Topeka, the son of William and Ramona (Myers) Senogles. He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University and the Kansas City Art Institute. Duke was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre.
On May 5, 1950, in Topeka, he married Virginia Stadler. She survives. He and Virginia owned and operated a graphic arts studio along with a fine arts gallery for 35 years. Duke was art director for KANSAS! magazine, a state publication, for 27 years. He was well known for his watercolor paintings and had shows in various galleries. One of his paintings was selected by the Governor as a gift to the Chinese Delegation to Kansas. Duke was a member of the Kansas Watercolor Society and received purchase and cash awards from their organization. He was also a member of the Mulvane Art Museum and the Topeka Art Guild. Duke was an avid tennis player and athlete.
Other survivors include daughters, Jan Blaker and Jill Senogles, both of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lucille Hudson; and brothers, Glen, Bill, Albert "Bus", John, and Bob.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Cremation will follow.
