Gale Mildred Curtis, 91, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at a local hospital.
Gale was born January 6, 1921 in Onaga, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Tesssendorf) Brunkow. Her family moved to Topeka where her father became owner of the White Lakes Golf Course. At an early age, Gale learned to play and perfect her golf game. She was an avid golfer and won several tournaments and awards. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1938 and attended Strickler's Business College.
Gale married Arthur A. Curtis on December 12, 1942 in Topeka. He survives. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past December. Gale was the loving mother of three sons, Charles "Chuck" Curtis, and fiancé, Cinda Kunkler, Topeka, Dale Curtis, and wife, Alicia, Topeka, James "Jim" Curtis, and wife, Lynne, Cassville, MO; two step-granddaughters; and five step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Brunkow.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in the Fink Living Room at Brewster Place Health Care Center. Private family inurnment will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Benevolent Care Fund, Brewster Foundation, 1205 SW 29th, Topeka, Kansas 66611.
Penwell-Gabel Mid Town chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
