Gail A. Snyder, 75, of Topeka, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept, 20, 2006 at the Colmery O'Neil VA Hospital.
He was born November 25, 1930 in Morrill, KS, the son of Floyd V. and Mildred Cashman Snyder.
He grew up on a farm in Brown County. He was a 1952 graduate of McPherson College. After teaching at Little River, KS, he served in the Army in Japan. Upon his return, he taught at Morrill Grade School and served as principal. He attended Bethany Seminary in Chicago. He was an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren, serving as pastor in Grenada, KS and Akron, OH. He served as chaplain at the Capper Foundation for several years, did volunteer work for numerous organizations in the Topeka area and was a foster father to more than twenty children. He retired from Sears after 35 years of service. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He married Sandra D. Moyer on August 14, 1953 in Hamlin, KS. She survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta.
Other survivors include a son, Stephen B. Snyder and his wife Judy of Merriam, KS; three daughters, Sheryl Brann and her husband Michael of Lawrence, Dona Sue Kluber of Mayetta and Christina Snyder of Topeka; seven grandchildren and two brothers, Dale and Carrol Snyder.
Mr. Snyder will lie in state after 2:00 pm, Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, Sept. 23 at Countryside United Methodist Church with private family inurnment at a later date.
