Gladys Iona Luckert, 1927-2006
G. Iona Luckert of Topeka, Kansas, passed away at Midland Hospice Center, Saturday, October 28, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Iona was the daughter of Gladys Emaline and Richard Robert Rohr. Born and raised in Sherman County, Kansas, Iona graduated from Goodland High School, attended Fort Hays State College, and taught school.
Iona married William (Bill) Luckert on May 25, 1949. They farmed for several years and later resided in Goodland, Kansas, where Iona became a department manager of a local grocery store. Following retirement, Bill and Iona moved to Topeka to enjoy time with their family, life-long friends including Twyla and Glen Middleton, and the congregation of Community of Christ Church.
Iona's life was golden with love for friends and family. She knew how with a quick, humorous reply; a comforting comment; a carefully chosen card; a concerned question; or an insightful observation to bring out a smile, to comfort, to guide, to inspire.
Surviving members of her family include husband Bill; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Kelvin Hohner, Minneapolis, Kansas; daughter and son-in-law Marla and Ken Morse, Topeka, Kansas; and son and daughter-in-law Richard and Laura Luckert of Prairie Village, Kansas; grandson and wife Christopher and Mary Hohner and granddaughters Kelsey Hohner, Sarah Morse, Alisa Morse, and Arin Morse; great grandsons Tyler, Bryce, and Devin and great granddaughter Shyanna. She also is survived by younger brother and sister Richard Rohr and Carolyn Sawyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Mrs. Luckert will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are requested to Community of Christ Church, 5252 SW 19th, Topeka, Kansas 66614 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
