Freida Elnora Winter Heckard, 73, of Topeka, passed away at her home on March 28, 2010. She was born May 4, 1936, the daughter of Ira Worthen and Eunice Lonora (Walker) Winter, in Allen, Kansas. She attended Melvern High School, graduating in 1953. On October 19, 1953, she married William "Bill" F. Heckard. After 39 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in August of 1993. She and Bill had owned and operated South 75 Truck & Auto Salvage. She spent much of her free time with her grandchildren and also at Countryside United Methodist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Freida M. Cain, of Topeka, Mary J. Hawkins, of Topeka, Susan K. Keehn, of Perry, and Judy A. Lister, of Topeka; son, William F. Heckard, II, of McLouth; 21 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; sisters, Helen Winter and Gracie Vasquez; brothers, Delbert Winter and Gerald Winter; and great granddaughter, Brenlee Lister.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka, KS 66611. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Freida will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O.
