Frederick "Fred" Sorensen, 83, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2006.
Fred was born October 2, 1922 in Bristow, IA, the son of Frederick Jacob and Ruby Burton Sorensen.
He attended Britt Iowa Public Schools and Britt Junior College.
He served in the U.S. Naval Air Force from 1944 to 1946.
Fred worked for Black & Veatch Engineers, Douglas Construction Company, Wagner Construction and Topeka Lath and Plaster.
He was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church, Topeka West Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris fellow, and American Legion Post #31 in Rossville, Kansas.
Fred married Mary Krutsinger on April 30, 1949 in Kansas City, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by two sons; Terry Sorensen and wife, Andrea; and Fred B. Sorensen, all of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Nancy Rhone and husband, Greg, Topeka; and Michele Rutter and husband, Jim, San Clemente, CA; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jerry Sorenson and husband, Harlan, Crystal Lake, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Crestview United Methodist Church. Fred will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
