Frederick Reynolds

Frederick P. Reynolds, Sr., 81, loving husband and father, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 after his battle with acute leukemia.

He was born March 17, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of the late Jack and Winifred Reynolds. He is the brother of Jean Thompson, Boulder, CO, and the late John Reynolds.

Fred grew up in Minneapolis, MN and graduated from Washburn High School, Minneapolis and from the University of Minnesota. He was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity. Prior to entering college, he served as an ensign in the US Navy Air Corps. He was a fighter pilot.

He married his college sweetheart, Jeanne Peterson Reynolds and was blessed with three children. Moving south from Minneapolis due to business opportunities, he lived briefly in Sioux Falls, SD, Sioux City, IA, and St. Joseph, MO, before making his final home in Topeka. Fred has lived here the last 44 years.

An entreprenuer at heart, he owned Midland Broadcasters, Inc., ( KEWI and KMAJ), Cable World, a cable television company, headquartered in Sikeston, MO, numerous radio properties, and was involved in the creation of Sound Products, Inc., an audio/video and security company.

He served on several boards, including Capital Federal Savings and Topeka Country Club.

Known for his sense of humor, he adored his friends and loved sharing stories during coffee, and while playing a round of golf. He was an avid golfer.

To his family, he was larger than life. He will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanne; son, Fritz Reynolds and his companion, Beverly Holliday, Topeka; four grandchildren, Brian, Ali, Christopher, and Katie of Topeka; daughter, Robbin Reynolds, and granddaughter, Laini of Kansas City; daughter, Cindy Owen, son-in-law, Brad Owen and two grandchildren, Kimberly and Michael of Topeka; sister, Jean Thompson of Boulder, CO; sister-in-law, Alice Reynolds, Denver, CO.

Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Following the commital service, a reception will be held at Topeka Country Club.

Mr. Reynolds will lie in state after noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in memory of Fred Reynolds either to the First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins, 66604, or to support research for the prevention and treatment of cancer and leukemia at the Cancer Center located at the Kansas University Medical Center, KUEA, PO Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044.
