Freddy Gene Bussard, 84, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, December 3, 2016.
He was born October 27, 1932 in Augusta County, VA, the son of Charles and Tishie (Sprouse) Bussard.
Freddy graduated from Craigsville High School and immediately enlisted in the Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic from 1951 -1955. In 1954, he married Wanda McPherson. They were married for 25 years and together had five children. They divorced in 1979.
He then married Sue (Banion)Heinisch in 1983. During his working life he was a Journeyman wireman with IBEW Local union 226, Topeka, KS where he was a member for 47 years. He also carried a master electrical and mechanical license for the City of Topeka. He then went to work for the Seaman School District as a HVAC/ Maintenance specialist until his retirement in 1994.
Freddy was a lifelong outdoors enthusiast with a special fondness for crappie fishing as well as turkey and deer hunting. He was a generous and caring family man who never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife Sue; children Debra Welch of Topeka, Wanda Weltzin (Dave) of Lindsborg, Freddie Bussard of Topeka, David Bussard of Topeka and Kathy Rohrbach (Robert) of Topeka; three step-children, Ed Heinisch (Jeanine), Jean M. Everts and Jodie Heinisch, all of Topeka; 7 grandchildren; 5 step- grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Connie Spencer (Ray) of Baltimore, MD and a half sister Elizabeth Ellinger.
Freddy was preceded in death by a brother, Jake Bussard (Doris Brown) and a sister Lena (Puckett) McNeal.
In keeping with Freddy's wishes cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm, Thursday, December 8 at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, 730 S.W. Fairlawn Rd. Topeka, KS 66606.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to WildTrust, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, 512 SE 25th Ave.,Pratt, KS 67124-8174 or to Let's Help, Inc., 200 S. Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66603.
