Fred R. Henderson, Topeka, passed away April 20, 2010 at the age of 93. He was born March 7, 1917 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Manning and Agnes (Morton) Henderson. He graduated from Oread High School, Lawrence and attended the University of Kansas. He married Mary Katherine Singleton in Lynchburg, VA on November 2, 1945. They were married 55 years. She preceded him in death, as well as his brother and sister. Fred was a pioneering pilot, having earned his pilot's license as a teenager. He flew for TWA during World War II, and later flew on the TWA World Survey Tour. After TWA, he began working for the Kansas Power & Light Company as a pilot, and in the engineering department, later inventing the equipment to patrol the power lines by airplane for problems. He retired in 1992 after 50 years of service. He is survived by son, Alan (Maureen) Henderson, Lenexa; daughter Ketta Mulford, Topeka; granddaughters, Erin Busenhart and Sarah Henderson, Kansas City; grandsons, Brent and Scott Mulford, Topeka; great grandson, Oliver Busenhart; and his many friends at the Billard Airport. Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 6th & Gage.
