Fred Eberhart

April 1, 1945 — November 1, 2021

Fred Eberhart died in a Kansas City hospice house on November 1, 2021. Born as an Easter baby on April 1, 1945, he was 76 years old. Fred loved living and life. Like his long ancestry of carpenter ancestors, he was a skilled builder. He inherited creativity from his mother and won the city holiday decorating contest at age 14. He was a madrigal at Topeka High School and a Shakespearean actor at Washburn University, where he majored in theatre. He had the vision of top artists and put his all into every project so that people stood in line waiting for him to do a design for them. He attracted friends and developed strong friendships everywhere he went.

But then dementia came along, as it did for some of his relatives. He might have never been able to adjust to a locked memory unit. Instead he got pneumonia and died in a relatively short time. He leaves behind his children Brent and Jill Eberhart and grandchildren, Zachary, Sara, Ashlynn, and Katherine - also his sister, Alice Eberhart-Wright, a large circle of friends and admirers, and numerous cousins from coast to coast. Photographs from his last year in New Zealand are full of his abundant joy and attachment to the people who surrounded him. We can imagine him walking on the beach, building Houses for Humanity in Africa, and always making new friends.

He died in Kansas City and was cremated at Penwell Gabel in Topeka. No services are currently planned but one of these days, Fred's creative spirit may strike and there will be a big party to share stories and memories.
