Fred E. Baker, 79, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at St. Luke's South Hospital, Overland Park, KS.
Fred was born on March 1, 1937, in Sioux City, IA, to Clarence and Anna (Wendzillo) Baker.
Fred graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and later was the Investment Specialist in Kansas City for New England Financial Services for many years. At the same time he managed his own investment business in Topeka, working with the Menninger Foundation and countless friends in Topeka and Kansas City. Fred loved people and was a friend to all he met.
In retirement, Fred enjoyed his friends and book clubs. He loved to read and play chess and poker with his grandsons. He was a founding member of the Red Dog Poker Club and a member of the Saturday Night Literary Club. In recent months, he and Gloria had downsized and embarked on a new adventure in Overland Park, where they enjoyed being closer to their grandchildren and enjoying all the city has to offer.
He was a devoted husband of Gloria for 50 years, loving father to Dina (Peter) Smallman and Jay (Carrie) Baker, and the proud grandfather of Jackson, Mason and Colby Baker.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
