Frank L. Ross, 88, of Topeka, KS died on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. He was born on April 27, 1928 in Topeka KS. His parents, Robert Ross and Louise Ross moved from Texas to Topeka and raised 4 children Ethera, Frank, Naoma, and Edward. Frank grew up in North Topeka with his siblings and attended McKinley Grade School, Curtis Jr High School and Topeka High School. He served in the Army and was stationed for three years in Seoul, Korea. He graduated from Washburn University majoring in Sociology and Psychology. He also completed some courses working toward a graduate degree from Kansas State University. He worked in various jobs including the state hospital, BIS (Boys Industrial School) in North Topeka, and Prudential Insurance. He had a long rewarding career working in the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights (KCCR). He worked on claims of employment discrimination and work environment violations. He worked his way up to the position of assistant director. Frank worked hard as a public servant for over 30 years in support of social causes including civil rights and discrimination in the areas of employment and education. After retirement Frank performed increased charitable activities including remedial reading with students in some local Topeka elementary schools for which he received a letter of commendation from President Bill Clinton.
He was raised in the original Pilgrim Baptist Church in North Topeka founded by his mother and her brother. In 1950, he joined Shiloh Baptist Church. Frank married Doris E. Scott on January 17, 1970 and they had a joyous and loving marriage for over 34 years. In 2008 he rejoined Pilgrim Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son Frank Habeebullah and daughter Ernestine Lindsay; five grandchildren; Frank Tauheed, Nadirah, Faakir, Alfonso, Derrick, 13 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, his brother Edward and a host of other relatives, friends, and church members. He was preceded in death by a son, John.

A funeral ceremony will be at 10:00 am Thursday December 22, 2016, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Topeka Cemetery, Topeka KS. A repass lunch will be after the graveside service at the Ramada Inn Hotel Downtown- Parlor B 2nd floor- 420 SE 6th Street Topeka KS 66607
