Francis X. Perney, 89, of Topeka, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011.
Francis was born December 22, 1921, in Topeka, son of Francis and Martha (Haynes) Perney. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as a Corporal. Francis was united in marriage to Helen Wiseman on September 5, 1942, in Topeka. She passed away in 2000.
Francis started working for Goodyear Tire & Rubber as a pipefitter, retiring as a maintenance supervisor in 1982 after 36 years of service. He was a founding member of Local 307 United Rubber Workers Union. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion.
Francis is survived by his three sons, Jan (Linda) Perney, Evanston, IL; Bruce (Claudia) Perney, Topeka; and Mark Perney, Colorado Springs, CO; ex daughter-in-law, Kathy Perney, Topeka; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters.
Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel, Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Perney will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund, 817 SW Harrison St., Topeka, KS 66612.
