Francis William Brown, 82, of Eskridge, KS and formerly of Topeka, passed away Friday, October 3, 2008.
He was born April 3, 1926 in Topeka, the son of William Isaac and Margaret M. Crisp Brown. He was a graduate of Topeka High School. He served in the United States Army during WW II. He attended Washburn University and graduated from Clark's Business School.
He was active in the Topeka VA Hospital Voluntary Services Golden Age Games and competed in ping-pong, bowling, and billiards.
Survivors include nieces, Kay Kelly and companion Paul Post of Topeka and Jeanne Thompson and her husband Rick of Leawood, KS; great-nephews, Matt, Paul and Drew Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father and his sister, Dorothy L. Brown Kelly.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Graveside services with military honors will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Brown will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to VA Medical Voluntary Services Golden Age Games, 2200 Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66622.
