Frances Madeline Chumley, 92, of Topeka, passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 at Winter Meadow Homes.
She was born January 16, 1917 in Topeka, the daughter of Alfred and Lavina (Thomison) Jacobson. She was a 1934 graduate of Topeka High School.
Her and her husband owned and operated the Coffee Cup Café, The Sandwich Palace and other businesses in Topeka. She was a dental assistant and assisted in the business office of Dr. Gorbit. She later worked in the business office of Shopper City and retired from Macy's Department Store.
Frances married Boyd Don Chumley on September 11, 1936 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Robert Herrick, Jr., three sisters, Leona, Ruth and Hazel and two brothers, Alfred and Jonny. Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Ashcraft (Steve) of Topeka; her granddaughter, Lorie Weakly (Bill) and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dylon Weakley and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. Chumley will lie in state after 3 p.m., today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to First Nazarene Church, 1001 Southwest Buchanan Street Topeka, KS 66604-1154 or to Midland Care Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
