Frances E. Springstead, 97, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018.
She was born April 2, 1921, in Fort Scott, Kansas the daughter of Edward and Beulah May (Henderson) Dunaway.
On June 8, 1956, she married Robert Edwin Springstead I. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2001.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; favorite son-in-law, Daniel Weigand; grandson, Harrison Michael "Mike" Springstead; and six siblings.
Survivors include three children, Sharon Weigand, Gary Braxton and Robert E. Springstead, II (Kim); grandchildren, Sue Romero, Regina Parker, Tammy Kroening (Don), Sam Carroll, Brian Braxton, Brenna Lichter (Robert), Kim Ewing (Larry), Cade Braxton, Makoto Braxton (Maria), and Robert E. Springstead III; many great- grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Frances loved Arizona. She spent her younger years there and later she and Robert spent their winters there. At 72 years old, she hiked the Grand Canyon. She also hiked all of the mountains around Tucson, AZ with her daughter.
She was a collector of rocks; she loved to pick them up from the places she visited.
Most important to her was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved taking care of her grandchildren. Frances was very nostalgic, always cooking and making meals, although she wouldn't normally eat until she made sure everyone was taken care of first, she always ate last.
She will be missed by her family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. in the Abbey Chapel at Mount Hope Cemetery, 17th & Fairlawn. The family will host a reception immediately following the service until 3:00 p.m. Private entombment of the cremated remains will be in the mausoleum at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel.
