Frances M. Engelken, 91, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on January 16, 1917 in Centralia, KS, the daughter of William J. and Clementine J. Mueller Koch. She had resided in Topeka since 1951. She was employed as a clerk in the Revenue Department for the State of Kansas for 25 years before retiring. Frances married Cletus J. Engelken on February 25, 1939 in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death in January of 1953. She was preceded in death one great-grandson, three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include three children, Jane Ann Sunneberg, Dorothy M. Huegel, and William C. Engelken all of Topeka, eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Earl Koch of Fairview, KS and two sisters, Helen Maxine Gudenkauf and Mary Ann Bulkley, both of Topeka. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Cremation will follow services. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Mrs. Engelken will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Fund at Topeka Presbyterian Manor, 4712 S.W. 6th St., Topeka, KS 66606.
