Forrest Merle Chapman, Sr., 90 of Topeka, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at Brewster Place in Topeka. He was born on March 20, 1914 at Arkansas City, Kansas the son of Ralph and Carrie S. Bell Chapman. He graduated from Paola High School, Paola, Ks. in 1932. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. Degree in Business in 1936. He was an Army Veteran of WWII where he obtained the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star while in Italy. He was an executive with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years before retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Downtown Topeka Kiwanis Club where he served for 2 years as president, the Acacia Fraternity at K.U., Westminister Presbyterian Church and the Telephone Pioneers. He married Alice Hosford on February 10, 1945 at Lawrence. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2000. He was also preceded in death by one son, Forrest M. Chapman, Jr. in 1976. Survivors include one daughter, Susan L. Chapman of Albuquerque, NM. Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private burial will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Chapman will lie in state after Noon Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
