Floyd Eugene Wyllie, Sr., age 94, a native of Dover, KS, a former resident of Topeka, KS and a current resident of Fairhope, AL passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012.
Mr. Wyllie was a member of the Greatest Generation and as a World War II Army veteran saw action in the Philippine Is. and was a member of the U.S. occupational forces in Japan following the Japanese surrender.
Mr. Wyllie was a member of Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Wyllie was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Carbondale, Ks. Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He was also a long standing member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations and contributed to many worthy causes for veterans. Mr. Wyllie also served as a volunteer at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope for over twenty years following his retirement from the government.
Mr. Wyllie was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Wyllie, Grandson, Scott Eugene Wyllie, Parents, William Samuel Philson Wyllie and Mary Elizabeth Wyllie (Moran), Brothers, James, Walter and William Wyllie, And sister, Virginia Hughes.
He is survived by his sons, Floyd E. Buddy Wyllie, Jr. and wife Lynda Ann of Mobile, AL., Merton E. Sonny Wyllie of Lindsay, OK.; daughter, Mary Sue Deaver of Sumter, SC; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Beaman of Topeka, KS.; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Thursday, September 20, 2012, at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the chapel for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, 1120 G.
