Floyd C. Ward, 90, Topeka, passed away Sat. May 30, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center.
Floyd was born Aug. 3, 1918 in Paint Rock, NC, the son of John and Alice (Taylor) Ward.
He graduated from Hot Springs High School, Hot Springs, NC in 1936.
Floyd proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps and US Air Force from 1941 until his retirement in 1963. He was employed by Wilch Manufacturing as a machinist, retiring in 1981.
He married Winnie "Jo" Ward in Greenville, SC on June 2, 1945. She preceded him in death.
Floyd was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Highland Park Optimist Club, Highland Park United Methodist Church, American Legion Capitol Post #1 and Jayhawk Chapter 974 USAF Sergeants Association.
Survivors include a son, Gerald B. Ward of Topeka; sister, Nellie Briggs of White Pine, TN; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and former daughters-in-law, Anne Ward, Topeka and Vivian McDuffie, Colorado Springs, CO.
He was preceded in death by a son, Hugh W. Ward; two brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wed., June 3 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Interment with military honors will be at a later date in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
