Floyd R. Hopkins, 92, Topeka, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Brewster Place. He was born July 21, 1917, in Rossville, Kansas, the son of William and Millie (Smith) Hopkins.
He married Vivienne Randall on June 22, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 2002.
Floyd was a graduate of Washburn University in 1948. He was employed by Hallmark Cards for many years and retired from the State of Kansas in 1980. Floyd was a Ret. Lt. Col. in the US Army, serving in WWII in China, Burma, and India. He retired in 1977. Mr. Hopkins was a member of Orient Lodge #51, A.F. & A.M., Arab Shrine Legion of Honor, and Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving is a daughter, Cheryl (Max) Menges, of Topeka; granddaughter, Kimberly (David) Cowsill, of Wichita; grandson, Craig (Gretchen) Gibson, of Jenks, Oklahoma; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ira, Clarence, and Roy; and sister, Thelma.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 19, at First Baptist Church, 3033 SW MacVicar. Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery with military honors. Floyd will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Masonic services will be conducted by Orient Lodge #51, A.F. & A.M. at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
