Services will be held for Florence C. Weeks of Topeka, KS at 11:00 a.m., on Sat., Sept. 6, 2008 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 725 S.W. Buchanan. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Weeks passed away on Sept. 3, 2008 at her residence. She was born of Swedish parents, Robert and Alma Erickson Leadstrom, Savonburg, KS, July 4, 1915. She was baptized and confirmed at Friend's Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg, KS. She attended public schools there and Parsons Business College. She had resided in Topeka since 1939. She moved to Wichita in 2004.
Mrs. Weeks was employed for 30 years by the State of Kansas for the Department of Health and Environment and The State Corporation Commission, until her retirement in 1982.
Mrs. Weeks was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of Pricilla Circle of the church. She was a Legislative secretary for several years. She also did volunteer work for the Salvation Army for many years.
Her husband, John C. Weeks, passed away in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, George and Herbert Leadstrom, and her sister, Kathryn Tompkins. She is survived by a son, Dr. Mark Weeks and his wife Fayon of Derby, KS; a daughter, Linda Weeks of Lawrence, KS; a sister, Pearl Kearns of Kansas City, MO; and three grandchildren, Erika and John Weeks and Anson Stancliffe.
Florence will lie in state after 5:00 p.m., on Fri., Sept. 5, 2008. Visitation will be 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Fri. at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Sat. Memorial contributions in Florence's name may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Heart Association or charity of donor's choice all in care of the funeral home.
