Florence "Flossie" Webber
Florence Mae Webber, 87, daughter of Linden Wells Greene and Matie Flanagan, was born May 16, 1920 in Marceline, MO and passed away January 11, 2008 in Topeka, KS after a brief illness. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1938 and subsequently attended Washburn University where she participated in the Business Society and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was employed as the Executive Officer of the Kansas Corporation Commission as well as Webber Law Offices. Flossie was an avid dancer. She performed and taught ballet, tap and ballroom dancing. She was an instructor for Arthur Murray Dance Studios and volunteered her talents for the United Service Organizations (USO) during World War II in support of US military personnel. Flossie taught tap dancing to seniors in the community and was a dancer with the "Recycled Rockettes" and Topeka Dance Groups. She volunteered for Doorstep of Topeka and served as a Cub Scout leader for Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of the First Santa Fe Trail Muzzle Loading Club, the Nautilus Club of Central Park, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Eastern Star, and was a Deacon and member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward James, and brother Linden W. Greene Jr. Survivors include her two children Dr. Edward Webber of Topeka and Janice Webber of Parkton, MD, two grandchildren Dr. Rees Webber and Suzanne Webber Seawel and 5 great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles E. Greene, Topeka. Visitation for family and friends will be at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel Thursday, January 17, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 1275 SW Boswell Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with the inurnment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Helping Hands Humane Society Building Fund, 2625 NW Rochester Rd. Topeka, KS 66617.
