Florence Helen Eastman, 88, Topeka, died Sunday, January 11, 2004. She was born September 4, 1915 in Antiock, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Harriet Reynolds Eastman. Raised in Topeka, she was a 1933 Topeka High graduate. On Jan. 21, 1934, she married William E. Eastman, a marriage of 62 years. She was owner/operator of the Joy Shop for over 30 years. She was a State past President and local past President of Letter Carriers Women's Auxiliary #82 and also was a very active resident at Atria Hearthstone Retirement Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband William E, daughter Diane, and her husband Rodney Mapes. Survivors are daughter Joyce and husband Robert Byrd, Auburn, KS; sons Gerald and wife Karen Eastman, Topeka, and Roger and wife Diane Eastman, Coshocton, OH; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16, 2004 at 9:00 AM at Penwell-Gable Midtown Chapel in Topeka. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Florence will he in state on Thursday, January 15, 2004 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her lifetime church, Central Congregational, 1248 SW Buchanan, Topeka, Kansas 66604 - earmarked for the Youth Programs.
