Florence E. Mauzey

Florence E. Mauzey passed away Monday, April 30, 2007. She was born March 26, 1928 in Atchison, Kansas, daughter of Charles T. and Dorothy F. (McNemee) Hicks. Florence lived in Leavenworth, KS until she was two years old. At this time her father passed away and she lived with relatives until the age of 15, when she started living on her own. She had several jobs in Atchison during this time including candling eggs at the former Wilson Poultry Co. and working in the dining room at Mount St. Scholastica.

In 1947 she met Calvin A. Mauzey at a Cummings, KS school program. They were married in Geneseo, Ks. August 16, 1947. Florence was baptized at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison, KS. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

During her married life she had several different jobs. Among them, selling Avon and working at the Pennant Cafeteria, Topeka. She was manager of the Huntington Apartments, Topeka, for 10 years. Most of all she loved being at home decorating her home and cooking all kinds of great tasting foods. Being Irish, she loved to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with green foods, decorations and clothing. At Christmas she would make hand made candies to give to family, friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her husband, Calvin Mauzey of the home; one daughter, Linda and her husband Bill Murray, Oskaloosa, KS; "Granny's Sweethearts", her granddaughters, Wendi and her husband Tod Bevitt, Overbrook, KS and Kristi and her husband, Corey Cook, Topeka; her second set of "Sweethearts", her great-grandchildren, Liam and Laura Bevitt, Overbrook, KS and Kylie and Xander Cook, Topeka. Florence is also survived by her sister Iva and her husband, Wayne Bowers, Van Alstyne, Tx., and her cousins and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister Mitzi Bell.

Florence was cremated. Private family burial services will be at the Cummings Cemetery, Cummings, KS at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Cummings United Methodist Church, 13919 Front, Cummings, KS 66016. Arrangements are with Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
