Ferne E. Dunaway, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at a Topeka hospital.
She was born on January 5, 1920 in Walbert, MO, the daughter of Ester A. and Pearl Pfieffer Ficke. She had resided in Topeka since 1946.
She worked for over 30 years for the Federal Government as an Administrative Assistant at the 5th Army Headquarters and the Winter General Veterans Hospital in Topeka before retiring on February 11, 1977.
Ferne married John E. Dunaway on November 11, 1941 in Owensville, MO. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1956. Survivors include one son, John A. Dunaway of Topeka, 3 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and one brother, Lloyd W. Ficke of Springfield, MO.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Dunaway will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
