Fern L. Schaake, 93, of Topeka, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2014.
Fern was born on February 17, 1921 in Lawrence to Albert C. and Cecile D. (Kiefer) Schaake. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence and attended Lawrence Business School.
Fern worked for many years as a secretary for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company and retired in 1984.
She is survived by several nieces, including Sarah (John) Leonhard of Oskaloosa and Willa Rae (Richard) Ballard of Prairie Village as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Raymond and Carl Schaake, and a niece, Dotty (Schaake) Traxler.
Fern's wishes were to be cremated and a graveside service will held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2014 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to either the Aldersgate Village Good Samaritan Fund, 7220 SW Asbury Drive Topeka, KS 66614 or St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, 1700 SW 7th St, Topeka, KS 66606.
