Evelyn R. Archibald, 91, of Topeka, died Friday, October 1, 2004 at a Topeka retirement facility. She was born on August 9, 1913 at Silver Lake, Kansas, the daughter of Walter C. and Maude Crandall Jones. She resided in Silver Lake for the first eight years of her life before moving to Topeka where she spent the remainder of her life. She graduated from Topeka High School and Strickler's Business College. She worked for the Herington Army Air base during WWII. She later was employed by the State of Kansas in the Department of Human Resources before retiring in 1975. Mrs. Archibald was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and Grace Episcopal Cathedral. She married Fred W. Kerle on September 15, 1933 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1970. She married John Archibald on September 5, 1973 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2002. She was also preceded in death by one son, James E. Kerle of Topeka. Survivors include two nephews, Richard Rees and his wife Dixie of Grantville and Jack Rees and his wife, Marilyn of Topeka, one niece, Jean Cassell and her husband, Denny of Tucson, Arizona, one step-daughter Eileen Washburn and her husband, Tom and one step-son, Bob Archibald of California and three step-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley Hall at Aldersgate Village. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Archibald will lie in state after Noon Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
