Longtime Topeka resident, Evelyn Mildred (Spatz) Halbert, went to her eternal rest on September 12, 2014. She was born January 7, 1924 in Jewell County, Kansas.
She married Eugene T. Halbert on April 1, 1950. The last several years of her life she has been a resident at Brewster Place.
Evelyn, worked as a teacher in a one room school house, and as a nurse at St. Francis and Stormont Vail Hospitals. She was especially proud of the time she spent as a housewife, raising her three children. She also served as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and active church circle member.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene; children Susan Shupp (Fred), Kevin (Charlene) and Philip (Becky) Halbert; and grandchildren Rebecca, Gabriel, Nathaniel, and Lorien Shupp; Heather Guerra (Jacob); Rachel, Benjamin, Samantha, Kimberly and Zachary Halbert.
Services will be on September 19, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Friends can pay their respects starting at 9:30 AM with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions in Evelyn's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
