Evelyn Holmes

Evelyn Holmes, 74, of Desoto, TX, went home to glory on October 3, 2010. She was born to Corine Moore and Louis Hampton on June 9, 1936, in Dermott, AR. She resided in Topeka for most of her life and worked as a secretary for the Topeka Historical Society.

Evelyn married Curtis R. Holmes June 11, 1976 in Topeka. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother Therlo Conner, and her sister Ethel Heard. She leaves to cherish her memory her six children; Valerie Sterling Cohen (Radcliff, KY), Sheila Sterling (Apple Valley, CA), Claude Sterling (Kansas City, KS), Angela Nickols (Desoto, TX), Lorrie Denson (Apple Valley, CA) and Kimberly Byers (Lancaster, TX) and 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday, October 8, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
